What we learned from Heroes last night

Ever since his inception, since that fateful day in his clock-fixatory, where he heard a certain tic-toc in his clients head, my friends and I have been in heated debate as to what Sylar does with those skulls he pries open.  The hit NBC television show, Heroes, is now on its third season, and hopefully this one wont be cut off by another Writers Strike Writers Guild of America strike. A lot of stuff happened in these two episodes, ‘The Second Coming‘ and ‘The Butterfly Effect‘, pointless questions and both ones of actual value.  If the title did not give it away, this article will contain spoilers.  But only spoilers if you didn’t watch it yet, in which case you are pretty stupid.

What does Sylar do with the top half of his victims skull?

One of the better parts of the Heroes team is how connected they are with their fans.  In response to the slow moving second season, Tim Kring promised there to be a lot more action.  Kring also admitted he didnt work with Claire and West’s romance well, so he stopped trying that.  There was a long time between the second and third season, and a lot of forum going.  I do not imagine myself to have that unique a perspective, so it came to no surprise that there were, you got it, other people wondering about Sylar’s tactics.  The scene?  Claire Bennet was laying on her back and Sylar was, while sporting a kitchen knife in his gut, fingered his way through her brain.  This was in reference to his former occupation as a clock repairman, and one of the major theories that popped up in many a nerdy conversation.

Does Angela Petrelli have powers?

Simply?  Yes.  But this wasn’t revealed in the most blunt fashion, but rather, in a very Heroes-esque one.  Peter teleported back to ‘Level 5′ Level 5 holds dangerous individuals for the Company in Primatech Research. and was fiercly approached by his mother about his shooting of Nathan.  How did she know?  Like him, she can see the future in her dreams.  Along with the relation Matt Parker and his powers had with his father, this futhers the idea of some powers acting hereditary.

How useless are the Dominican Republicans?

Turns out, apparently, not very.  I imagined Maya’s importance to be with her actual power, although it very well may be, Mohinder found importance in the actual physical happenings of the power; the adrenaline emitted by ones brain during stressful situation.  And with this, Mohinder found a way to isolate the powers and inject himself with it - although genius, this stuff never works in the movies.  The second episode ended with Suresh falling apart, literally.

Is Niki/ Jessica dead?

Yes and no.  In the second episode we are greated with Tracy Strauss.  If we were not introduced to Jessica the same way, her clueless refusal to Nathan’s questions may sound a tad more convincing.  It is not yet stated, but although Jessica did die, Niki seems not to have, but is being controlled by another personality.  We also learned that Nik does not have a case of multiple personalities, but each seem to have their own powers.  Niki had super strength, Tracy has the ability to freeze and Jessica… just seems to have a sexy, sexy business.

I meant this to be a look at questions fans had before the third season started, and have been answered.  And although these are great answers, there are now even more questions.  Theorizing is loads fun!

Bill O’Reilly only likes it if its his OWN head up his ass

I have always found O’Reilly to be monstrously hilarious.  Before getting into the misuse of the term indoctrination, I would first like to point out that of the many of American’s of which Billy speaks of, he seems to be unable to get any of them on his show.  And do not worry about a Canadian commenting on American politics - this is the most un-political topic, coming from O’Reilly, the most un-political news caster.

Dictionary.com Unabridged (v 1.1) - Cite This Source - Share This in·doc·tri·nate Audio Help [in-dok-truh-neyt] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation –verb (used with object), -nat·ed, -nat·ing.

1. to instruct in a doctrine, principle, ideology, etc., esp. to imbue with a specific partisan or biased belief or point of view.
2. to teach or inculcate.
3. to imbue with learning.

Personally, I think the way JKR approached this was intelligent.  Intelligent, yet still British.  I am double-minoring in Psych and Creative Writing, and during classes in the birthing of novella, we were often insisted to create our character long before hand.  Colors, foods, nuances, personality, all of that stuff.  Have it in our mind so that when we write for them, we can imagine how someone of those traits may act, and have them act accordingly.  It was actually discussed how important a trait may be, even if it is one never revealed.  A good writer would be able to hint at that in their character, so if they were exposed, it all just made sense.  To an avvid reader, Ablus’ jock-fettish was a blip in the radar.  A proverbial ping in the proverbial search engine of life.  If that was the way the cookie crumbled, it didnt crumble very much.

But not as obvious (or hilarious) as Lance Bass, that was just LOL’s all around.

I find this entire backlash from Billy to be rather ironic.  As am I, and as has been mentioned before, JKR is in fact a Christian.  I do not know her stance on the matter, but my own is rather evident in this article.  JKR is, also in fact,

“Rowling has received honorary degrees from St Andrews University, the University of Edinburgh, Napier University, and the University of Aberdeen“.

This information would leave one to assume her lack of moronicness, perhaps one manifested so well by Bill O’Reilly.  And in this assumption of non-retardation, it would be safe to assume she knows how well her books are selling, and how huge an impact they have been, and will be, on children and their parents bank accounts alike.  As well this, she knew what flack she would have aimed at the back of her head if she gave off the vibe of trying to introduce a homosexual character.  Or maybe she didn’t, maybe it was a non-issue, or maybe even it was just never an issue, and she never though of a way to appropriately portray the character without such a stereotype bolstered to his favorite pair of socks.

What do I think she did with this revelation?  I think she was just being honest.  She wrote a character, she invented him in the vast Outspace within her mind and she, with faith in her own curosity, thought not to change a fact she lived with for a decade.  And although no one but JKR and her Editor may know her reason, changing Dumbledore’s sexuality, as unknown a process it may be, would be incredibly discriminatory.

Dumbledore is as real to us fans, if not more, as he is to JKR.  He is a great character, he did some great things and had some great sacrifices.  This entire personality advocacy was never an attempt to ‘indoctrinate’, as O’Reilly praises so adamantly, it was to show to kids that even homosexuals can be good role models.  Did his sexuality change or tarnish any of his character?  No!  The only part of his character that I now think of differently, is that I am now less than 100% certain he bonked McGonagall.

In a galaxy far, far away, they stoppped at one trilogy, maybe two…

Earlier today, AOTS had Steve Sansweet, “head of fan relations for Lucasfilm” on their The Loop segment.  They spoke of galaxies, and how they are so damn far away.  Also, the future of the Star Wars franchise.  Hopefully, the future is going to be better than the last few years…

Star Wars Episode II
ended with the start of the Clone wars. Palpatine issued ‘Order 6′ and the clones turned on the Jedi.

Wherein Episode III started with the end of the Clone wars. Judging by the complete lack of character development/ the complete lack of character in Christiansen, you would be surprised to know the movies were actually 3 years apart.

Tomorrow releases the Clone Wars movie, originally a cartoon series that was actually edited to fit a feature film.  Clone Wars was, originally to the tenth degree, a drawn cartoon series, short lived, unfortunately.  When Lucas had seen the first screening of the new series, he had to watch it in a theater, and saw promise. The series will continue in the fall. But the part I was not aware of is… well, they are doing another trilogy. In between III and IV.

So theoretically, this movie and series (same animation, same everything) will explain the gap between II and III, but what are we missing in the ~17 years between III and IV?

Also, what will they call them? Star Wars Episode III.25, III.5 and III.75?

The only thing I can find between the good trilogy and the bad trilogy is Obi-Wan.  Although powerful, Obi-Wan was a pretty crummy Jedi, even at the end of Episode III.  As much a non-political fellow I am, I have a thing for that side of the Star Wars politics.  I just find it more interesting when the apparent brutal campaigns actually involved beheadings.  Although I have not read the myriad of Star Wars novella, my friends have, and the massive infinate expanse of Star Wars is bound to inspire some good stories.

In ending, I admit myself one of those kids who will, no matter the rating, see any Star Wars movie released.  I am part of the population that lets Lucas afford to do whatever he wants.

Comic-Con 2008 - “The Golden Age of Superhero Movies”

If Jesus, Odin, Zeus and the Dhali Llama all took a poo in a cup, had Hitler swirl it all around in his mouth, throw it up, let it harden and then Bruce Willis took an Uzi to it… it would still not suffice to the amount of “Holy crap” that was uttered in this first day of the SDCC. Nor would, in the case of another carefully crafted pun, be as “Holy [a] crap” as that seen today in San Diego. Some say E3 died, at least the E3 I grew up with. No, it did not, it split itself into two beings; the keynote’s were trimmed into the new ‘E3′. Wherein the energy and vigeur once wetting the floors of the Los Angeles Convention Centre has been moved to the San Diego Convention Centre. That is where nerds Hulk it out, hXc.

Heroes and Villains

With the rediculously motivated Writers’ strike of yester-season broke the hearts of millions of Heroes fans.  The finale of Season 1 was an even fifty: fifty in regards to the fan reaction.  Season 2 had so much hope, and with a snail-pace intro we were really penning on a stronger second half.  But then Hollywood decided to be a jerk and was not a fan of the idea of writers getting a percentage of sales of their respective franchise DVDs.  I am not sure how it ended, but only that it ended, and that it ended too late.  Season 2 comes on DVD August 26, but instead of shipping a disc or two they decided to beef up the package with ‘behind the scene’ for every episode.  In a few ways (very few) the Writers’ Strike had some pree’ nice side effects; the last few epsodes were brilliantly written and the behind the scenes on the DVD set sounds pretty cool

Well here we have it, ABC went and recently released a trailer for the third season of Heroes, aptly titled Heroes: Villains”.  The title alone excites the masses.  The first season was all about Peter and Sylar, and it ended in a very comic book fashion (ambigulously).  The second season was looking further into a few characters, a few relationships and into the mythology of the ‘Godsend’.  It even explored the idea of hereditary powers, something asked aplenty by the ravenous fanbase.

So what can we get from this trailer?

  • Noah talks to Claire about his past history defending against the Villains, this would harken back to the connectin between Noah and Adam.  If Robert Bishop was in the team looking to get rid of those with powers, that would explain the Shanti virus.
  • Level 5: this is where the aformentioned Villains seem to be kept, next to it is a folder titled Knox, possibly for Fort Knox?
  • Why is Matt Parkman in a desert, possibly Texas?  That is where The Company is situated, as he has telepathy he probably finds something out from someone.
  • “All of us with powers” “But we know we are not alone”
  • The bald man (looks a lot like John Locke from Lost) seems to be trying to escape with his blue-fire powers?  Kamehameha anyone?
  • Nikki is boning more politicians, meaning there wil probably be a pseudo-political intrigue here.
  • Suresh is hanging upside in captive somewhere, as did he in Season 1 when he was investigating on Sylar.
  • Sylar gets his powers back and made contact with Peter, or someone else with telekinesis.
  • Suresh is injecting himself with something, Shanti virus having a comeback?
  • And for some reason, Claire is shooting Peter in the face.  Initially I thought it to be Peter’s ex-gf that he left somewhere in the future, and that would make a bit more sense.

This is just a list of speculations and theories and ideas and the like.  I am not promising anything here, but I am probably right about a lot of things because, well, I usuay am.
